I receive most of my oils as gifts (birthdays, Christmas, etc.) from family members and friends. Not a single holiday goes by where I don't receive multiple new oils as gifts. I am lucky enough that all the oils pictured above didn't bring me to bankruptcy because of the generous gifts I have received from loved ones. However, I also spend almost all of my disposable income on health-related products, like essential oils. Health is my number one priority when it comes to spending my money.

I was at the POTS Treatment Center in Dallas, Texas when a patient's mom told me about essential oils. Well, I had hea...

Last week, I published a review of scar treatments I've tried. Today I will be reviewing acne treatments I've tried. Whether it's stress-induced, hormone-related, a side effect of steroids, or an unknown cause, acne has been a part of my journey with chronic illness. Yes, I struggled with some acne since I was in grade 5, but it got much worse when I became sick.

Since I've been struggling with acne for more than half of my life, I've spent far too much money trying every product in the drugstore, every prescription cream my doctor has prescribed, many diet changes, naturopathic and homeopathic remedies, n...

If you've been following me on Instagram for the past year, you'll know that I've been trying everything under the sun to get my skin under control. I deal with acne, keratosis pilaris, atrophic scars from EDS, hyperpigmentation, mild localized psoriasis, and specific cystic acne scars on my shoulders, arms, and back. I developed cystic acne on my face, shoulders, arms, chest, and back when I developed a thyroid tumor. The scars this acne left behind prompted me to wear shirts with long sleeves (baggy t-shirts or cardigans) for two years. I was so insecure that I'd go out in a light beachy kimono/cardigan...

*These are all pictures of food I made in the past. Nowadays I make a lot less presentation-worthy meals haha*

Last week I shared what I eat (an Anti-Inflammatory vegan diet) and explained why I choose to eat this way. This week I'm going to be sharing a few quick go-to recipes I use in my daily life. There was a time where I made my food look pretty, but that time has definitely passed haha.

As I shared last week, I live alone in a city nicknamed Raincity. I love my living situation but trying to buy organic produce for 1 (on a budget) in a rainy climate can be tricky. It involves me not purchasing a lot o...

*Disclaimer: just because I eat like this, doesn't mean I'm saying you should. Often when I explain why I eat a certain way, people get defensive. My goal, however, is to explain why I eat a certain way, not why you should, as I'm often asked about this. Also, I'm a firm believer that diet is important, but usually not sufficient in and of itself for treating chronic illness. No diet or lifestyle management technique has cured me yet, but my symptoms would flare more without these lifestyle choices.*

I live alone in a city nicknamed 'Raincity." I love where I live, and I love my living situation, but these...

Last week I presented evidence on how exercise is an essential part of the treatment of POTS but that exercise definitely isn't a cure for POTS. You can read part 1 of this 2-part "Exercise and POTS" series here. Today I'm going to share with you what kinds of exercise I personally do to this very day.

I personally do a self-modified version of Dr. Levine's exercise protocol which includes "cardio" (recumbent bike) exercises on one day and strength exercises the next. Dr. Levine's POTS exercise protocol involves working out every week day (one day cardio the next day strength and so on) with weekends free...

Current research has shown that POTS is not caused by deconditioning (decreased muscle and cardiac strength caused by inactivity).

-Pulmonary Circulation, 2016

I want to start with a few disclaimers:

-When I first developed POTS there is NO WAY I could've exercised. Once I was put on a few stabilizing medications, I now realize that I should've done whatever I could to maintain some strength. Instead, I didn't move for an entire month during a hospital stay and my muscles atrophied. To this day, I have severe pain due to the muscle atrophy I experienced from the waist down on the right side of my body. Durin...
